Wedding Procedures

Please read carefully.

Steps to take:

  1. Call the parish office to (tentatively) arrange the wedding date and complete the online form.
  2. Obtain all required documents that apply to you (see below: Required documents 1 – 5).
  3. Arrange initial meeting with the priest who will officiate and/or prepare you for marriage.
  4. Confirm the booking by paying your deposit.
  5. Arrange to take the Pre-Cana marriage preparation course.
  6. Complete the process for dispensation(s), if applicable (see below: Required documents #6).
  7. Arrange to have witness forms - Form “B” completed (see below: Required documents #7).
  8. Make arrangements with the musician.
  9. Make final payments.
  10. Email your church ceremony program, readings and prayer selections to officiating priest.
  11. Email your entourage list and items in #10 above to parish wedding coordinator.
  12. Obtain marriage license (see below: Required documents #8).

Required documents:

  1. Certificate of Baptism - It must be recent, i.e. issued within 6 months of submitting (for a Catholic). If baptized in a Christian church, a copy of your original certificate of baptism will suffice. Please make sure you obtain the church’s mailing address in the process.
  2. Confirmation Certificate - It can be a copy of the original, no need to ask for a new one.  Certificate of baptism often has a note of confirmation received.  Obtain your certificate of baptism first.
  3. Marriage certificate(s) of previous marriage(s) - If applicable only.  Submit them at the first meeting with the priest preparing you for marriage.
  4. Divorce Decree - If applicable only.  Submit it at the first meeting with the priest preparing you for marriage.
  5. Marriage certificate (current) – If applicable only, i.e.  you are already in a civil marriage, seeking Church convalidation.  Submit it at the first meeting with the priest preparing you for marriage.
  6. Dispensation form(s) - If applicable, only.  They must be completed with the priest preparing you for marriage.  It is used in case of previous marriage(s), mixed religion, etc.  Please note, any booking is tentative only, until this process is completed.
  7. Witness forms (Form “B”) - The forms will be given to you by the priest preparing you for marriage.  It must be filled out by a Catholic friend/family member who knows you well and can be a witness of your freedom to marry.  Submit completed forms at the next appointment.
  8. Marriage License (current) - Obtain it from the county clerk's office.  Submit it no later than the rehearsal date.  By law, a wedding ceremony can not be held without a valid license, regardless any arrangements made.
